Class Descriptions

PLEASE NOTE: Registration is necessary to participate in our free classes. When attending in-person, we ask that you arrive a few minutes early to your chosen location, as we need to take attendance. If you’re new to our class concepts, we encourage you to try as many as you can to judge what will work best for you!

All classes begin with participants seated and then progressing to standing, if able.

There are always options provided for remaining seated or standing and moving throughout the class space.

 

MONDAYS
Marblehead Council on Aging – (in-person class)

10:00 AM – Strength with Kim – Kim Crowley, Instructor – (in-person class)
Class focuses on strength, balance, and coordination.
Kim uses her expertise as a personal trainer to focus her workouts on building strength and getting the body moving, while offering tips on proper form, techniques for managing Parkinson’s symptoms, and motivation. A combination of seated and standing stretching and strengthening exercises using weights, balance pads, resistance bands, etc. are incorporated.

10:15 AM – Bowling with Parkinson’s Fitness – a fun social event, NOT a class!
Choose a lane and join us on Mondays at Sunnyside Bowladrome! Bowling is a great way to stay active and keep your mind sharp, while having fun with friends!

TUESDAYS    
1:00 PM – Balance in Motion – Dianna Daly, Instructor – (virtual class only)
Class focuses on increasing range of motion, balance, flexibility and coordination.
Dianna provides a fun, welcoming, and creative environment where people can explore their individual and collective strengths. Participants are given tools through rhythm, dance and movement sequences to help improve agility and mobility issues associated with Parkinson’s. Movement games, props (stretchy bands, balls, etc.), vocal and facial exercises and a variety of music add to the fun.

1:00 PMBreathe & Stretch Yoga – Dianna Daly, instructor (virtual-class only)
Class focuses on mindfulness, stress reduction and gentle stretching.
Participants learn how to release tension through slow breathing and stretching exercises and ways to create stability through standing poses and mindful meditation.

THURSDAYS

– Sally Zagnoli, Instructor
Class focuses on strengthening the brain and body, correct form, sequencing, and a sense of purpose.
Sally encourages participants to work at their own pace, while incorporating brain games with strength, balance and movement exercises set to music. Her sense of humor and encouragement keep this class moving and laughing together, while working on neural plasticity.
